6 HORSES CHALLENGE – Alistair’s Cheltenham Day 4 Selections – why I’m backing these six runners

13:20 – PROACTIF

PROACTIF arrives as a lightly‑raced improver with the profile of a horse who has been brought along with a spring target in mind. His best work has come on softer ground, and Cheltenham’s new course layout tends to reward horses who travel and then lengthen rather than those who rely on a sharp turn of foot. His jumping has tightened with experience, and his cruising speed should keep him in the first wave turning for home. The question is whether he has the battle-hardness for a Festival finish, but his upward curve makes him a live player.

14:00 – HELLO NEIGHBOUR

HELLO NEIGHBOUR has shaped like a horse crying out for a strong-run race at an intermediate trip, and this setup looks ideal. He’s been consistent without being fully exposed, and his form lines suggest he handles undulations and stays well. The key angle is his ability to maintain rhythm — he’s a fluent jumper who doesn’t waste energy. If the race becomes a stamina test from halfway, he’s the type who keeps finding. His ceiling is still unknown, which is exactly what you want in a Festival handicap.

15:20 – KAZANSKY

KAZANSKY brings a gritty, staying profile to a race that often collapses late. He’s not flashy, but he’s reliable, and his best performances have come when the emphasis is on stamina rather than speed. The new course plays to that strength. He tends to hit a flat spot before staying on again, so positioning will matter — he’s not the type to make up ground instantly. If the leaders overcook it, he’ll be one of the strongest finishers. His form is solid rather than spectacular, but the race shape suits him perfectly.

16:00 – Gold Cup – GAELIC WARRIOR

GAELIC WARRIOR is the fascinating angle in a Gold Cup that lacks a dominant defending champion. His raw ability is unquestioned — he’s a high‑cruising, relentless galloper with a touch of class. The big question is stamina at the absolute top level over 3m2½f on the new course. His tendency to jump right has been well documented, but Cheltenham’s configuration is more forgiving than Leopardstown, and when he gets into a rhythm he can put rivals under pressure a long way out. If he stays, he has the engine to win a Gold Cup; if he doesn’t, it will show from the top of the hill. Pure talent puts him in the conversation.

16:40 – STATTLER

STATTLER is the proven stayer in the lineup, and this race plays directly to his strengths. He’s not quick, but he’s relentless, and the further they go, the more he grinds others into submission. His form this season has been patchy, but he’s the type who comes alive in marathon conditions. The key is whether he retains enough spark to hold a position early — if he gets outpaced, he’ll be playing catch‑up. But if the race becomes a war of attrition, he’s one of the few guaranteed to keep going when others have cried enough.

17:20 – AIR OF ENTITLEMENT

AIR OF ENTITLEMENT has shaped like a mare with a big engine and plenty of improvement to come. Her form has a progressive look, and she travels strongly enough to handle the tactical nature of a Festival mares’ race. The unknown is how she reacts to the intensity of a big-field Cheltenham finish — she’s been winning with something in hand but hasn’t been in a battle yet. Her pedigree and running style suggest she’ll relish the hill, and she’s one of the more upwardly mobile types in the field.

“Now, let’s quickly explain the challenge and the prizes. It’s simple – we’ve got six selections across the Friday cards.”

• 4 Winners = Share of £5,000

• 5 Winners = Share of £10,000

• 6 Winners = Share of £100,000

“So even if you don’t land all six, hitting four or five still gets you into the prize pool. The dream, of course, is all six for that £100,000 jackpot!
