The turn of the New Year means one thing for racing fans, the Cheltenham countdown is officially underway! We’re less than a month away from the Greatest Show on Turf and already punters are placing their ante-post bets, here’s how we think the Cheltenham horse racing tips will fair.
Champion Hurdle tips, The Queen Mother Champion Chase tips and odds, Stayers Hurdle betting, Ryanair Chase odds, runners in the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Yes absolutely it is still on. All four days of the race meeting are going ahead as planned.
The Festival is from Tuesday 16th to Friday 19th March 2021.
The Champion Hurdle is the main showcase of day one at the Festival, and the current favourite is Nicky Henderson’s Epatante (4/1). No surprise to see the 2020 winner heading the market. The price to me looks a little short as last season’s race was considered a poor resumption. If we fail to see something special emerge then I’m would expect a short priced SP favourite here.
Goshen (6/1) could be the next big thing if last season’s applications are any indication. Unbeaten prior to the Triumph Hurdle and was well clear jumping the last but unbelievably unseated rider with the race in the bag. On the eye, he could have been one of the most flawless Festival winners of all time. If Gary Moore can stay in the saddle he’s going to take some beating.
Abracadabras (10/1) came close to landing biggest gamble of the week in 2020, from 7/1 to 11/4 in the day of the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle. He looked a certainty to win turning the bend being the solo horse to be still swinging off the bridle but he just got caught be the relenting Shishkin who came from the rear of the field to steal the show.
Chacun Pour Soi (11/8) is now a short priced favourite in the Queen Mother Champion Chase betting after making light-work of a Grade 1 field at Leopardstown in December last year.
Politologue (6/1) has now won ten chases races the most recent coming at Sandown over 1m 7f in December last year. The winner of the Champion Chase 2020 beat heavily backed odds on favourite Defi Du Seuil with ease, will history repeat itself?
Without disregarding that win, the Nube Negra (10/1) victory in the Grade 2 Desert Orchid Chase at Kempton beating Altior at 20/1 made a big impression on the Champion Chase ante-post betting. The odds to win the Champion Chase were cut from 50/1 to 9/1 after he denied Altior over hurdles at 2m.
Champion Chase winner Altior (12/1) was never getting on terms at Kempton and drifted out as a surprise horse racing market mover from 7/1 to 10/1 to win. Tingle Creek winner and reigning champion Politologue is now 11/2 from 9/1 despite not running over the festive period.
Put The Kettle (20/1) went as short as 7/1 before Chancun Pour Soi the Willie Mullins’ multiple Grade 1 winner, but the large division in class between the pair was clear for all to see finishing 8 lengths behind.
Paisley Park (5/1) is the ante-post odds favourite again. With no valid reason regarding the poor performance last year, the consensus is that it was an ‘off day’. On the strength of his near perfect track record that would suggest the heavy anti-post betting.
Other contenders include Benie Des Bieux (8/1) and Honeysuckle (14/1), have history going head to head before. The first time running in the Stayers Hurdle, previously opting for the Mares Hurdle instead. Honeysuckle won Stayers Hurdle 2020.
Sire Du Berlais (10/1) completes the shortlist. Winning the Pertemps Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival 2020. Also winning on latest outing at Navan in November last year beating French Dynamite suggests he could be a serious contender for 2021 the Stayers Hurdle.
Ryanair Chase odds, tips and winners.
The Ryanair Chase is a difficult race to call from a anti-post perspective.
The winner for me has to be MIN (6/1) who last year at Aintree in what was in unbelievable form, especially over this sort of trip. As both a top-class and reliable performer, there’s no reason to suggest he’s not going to have another crack in 2021. Arguably better over this trip than the 2m where he has caught everyone’s attention.
Samcro (12/1) and Melon (16/1) head the list of contenders coming through the novice ranks, in the Marsh Novices’ Chase they were separated by just a nose. Both boasting good form at Cheltenham Melon placing at four Cheltenham festivals now I still feel these both have to improve a little more to challenge.
The showpiece event of the Festival takes place on the Friday, Cheltenham Gold cup tips will be updated in the first week of March on the ITV racing tips page. Betting tips Cheltenham are researched throughly months in advance.
What time is the Cheltenham Gold Cup 2021?
The Gold Cup starts at 15:30 Friday March 19th 2021.
Who is on the Cheltenham Gold Cup runners 2021 shortlist?
Al Boum Photo (7/2) is on course for a famous hat-trick, winning at Tramore for the third year in a row, in emphatic style with a 19-lenth victory over Acapella Bourgeois.
In the festive Christmas period, A Plus Tard (10/1) and Frodon (14/1) both registered Grade One wins for staying chasers. Both now have to be considered contenders but it either winning would be seen as a upset.
